Houses by plot dimensions
House on a 7 × 12 m plot
This design combines a longitudinal footprint with integrated parking and a void or courtyard around which certain parts of the building are organised. This internal opening makes it possible to break up the depth of the plan, but it interrupts the continuity of the floors, the walls and the roof.
The void must be considered as a complete boundary of the works, not as a simple absence of floor area.

What this design shows
The parking occupies part of the lower level and limits the supports available beneath the upper storey. The upper walls must reach the remaining bearing zones or be carried by sized transfer components.
The courtyard or central void creates edges on several sides. If the space is open to the sky, it requires suitable falls, outlets, upstands and thresholds. If it corresponds to a double-height internal volume, the walls bounding it must be stabilised over that height and protected according to their position in the envelope.
The opening also interrupts the floor diaphragm. The forces must travel around the void by means of correctly designed edges, collectors and connections.
Layout
Schematic plans
These documents are there to make the layout and the envelope shown understandable. They are schematic plans: they constitute neither construction drawings, nor structural drawings, nor a building permit.

Possible adaptations and their technical implications
Reducing or enlarging the courtyard changes the floor spans, the facade lengths and the routing of the drainage. Enclosing it turns an external area or a void into an internal volume and calls for a new roof and envelope composition.
Moving the parking changes the supports of the upper level. Moving the stair in turn affects the second major interruption of the floor.
In a series, repeating this design can rationalise the panels around the courtyard and the parking. A variation in the size of the void must nevertheless be treated as a complete structural variant.
A design becomes a project only after study
Site and geotechnics, planning, orientation, climate, structure, foundations, loads, wind, seismic action, envelope, performance, services, regulations and contractual scope are defined for the real case. None of these points is guaranteed by the original documents.
