Houses by plot dimensions

House on an 8 × 15 m plot

This design develops a house on a deeper plot, with integrated parking, an internal arrangement in several bays and a partly offset upper floor. The available length allows the zones to be differentiated further, but it multiplies the load-bearing lines, the openings and the interfaces to be coordinated.

The structure must remain legible across the whole depth of the building.

What this design shows

The parking opening removes part of the load-bearing facade at the lower level. The loads of the upper floor must be aligned with the side supports or transferred by a component sized for the span and the permissible deflections.

The upper floor has several changes of plane. Each change of outline creates an edge, an envelope junction or a low roof. These zones call for specific details for water, air, insulation and the protection of the steel components.

The facade combines large windows, different facings and shading elements. These components are not interchangeable without checking their weights, fixings and connections.

Layout

Schematic plans

These documents are there to make the layout and the envelope shown understandable. They are schematic plans: they constitute neither construction drawings, nor structural drawings, nor a building permit.

Possible adaptations and their technical implications

The layout can be recomposed bay by bay. Keeping a few recurring widths for panels, windows and rooms makes preparation easier and may allow certain components to be repeated within a grouped development.

Widening the parking or moving its entrance reduces the facade supports. Turning a setback of the upper floor into internal space changes the loads and the continuity of the floor.

A mirrored variant may respond to the orientation or the access of the plot, but it needs its own manufacturing markings and its own coordination of the services. It must not be produced by simply reversing the drawings on site.

A design becomes a project only after study

Site and geotechnics, planning, orientation, climate, structure, foundations, loads, wind, seismic action, envelope, performance, services, regulations and contractual scope are defined for the real case. None of these points is guaranteed by the original documents.
